Gilbert Thornton Obituary

Gilbert Ray Thornton; 65 of Ironton, Ohio Joined his parents and great grand son in heaven on Wednesday April 22, 2020 leaving from his home in Ironton.

He was born March 22, 1955 in West Virginia, a son of the late Emma Martin Thornton and the late Howard Clay Thornton. Gilbert was a United States Army Veteran, a former Railroad mechanic and loved life. He also loved his special dog, his chihuahua named Peanut.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother; Pete Thornton, a sister; Gidget Gallian, and his great grandson; Grayson Micheal Litteral.

He is survived by a son; Andrew Ray Thornton and his wife Haleigh, two daughters; Shanda Litteral and her husband Shawn, Andrea Rae Neace and her husband Dustin, 2 brothers; Jack Thornton and his wife Ruth, Alvin Thornton and his wife Kay, 2 sisters; Marlene Barr and her husband Herb, Melinda Johnson, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a special friend who is  the mother of his children; Rita Thornton and a host of family and friends.

Keeping with his wishes he will be cremated, and his ashes will be buried at a later date in the family plot. Memorial donations should be directed to the family to help with final expenses.

The children have in entrusted their dads care to the Taylor-Brown family of Brown Funeral Chapel.
